Friday, July 4, 1980 Independence Day
A quite nice day. I got my work done up. Fern came up. Betty came for us and we went to the parade about 10:30. Then we came home and over to Susan’s for her get together. Had a nice lunch, turkey, sliced ham, fruit etc. Very nice. People sat around and talked. Played games, kids and Walt. Not too much activity. Fern came here for supper and evening. She watched ballgame with Bill.

A quite nice day. It was cloudy with showers in PM. It cleared so they had fireworks and band concert in evening. I went with Dorothea, Carmen and Zak. Also we saw Susan and children there. Susan and friend went to the Highlander for the evening. Her kids stayed alone. I worked at Betty’s all day, we did rest of the cleaning in Pa’s apartment. Betty begun the varnishing. Bill worked on the bus. Billie fell on the back porch, it was wet and he slipped and fell off over the railing. Hurt him quite bad.
Sunday, July 6, 1980
It is been a cold windy day. I done up my regular work, went down to Betty’s. Helped her move a couple pieces of furniture in the apartment of Pa’s. Then Fern came up, she and I picked over a bushel of beet greens. I washed them and bagged them up for Betty. She worked all day up the apartment varnishing. She got it all done, it looks very nice. Got to wash the windows and put the screens back on then it will be ready to settle. Billie has been very lame and sore all day from his fall of yesterday. Bill worked up to Dorothea’s. Carmen away on a canoe trip and picnic with the Bob Hatch family, Joy and girls. Billie took the bull down to Walt’s today. Bill and I called on Dorothea in evening. She called at Fern’s in evening.
Monday, July 7, 1980 Flicka went
A real nice day. I washed. I went to Norway with Betty and Zak. Also Vince went. Betty took some furniture over to be recovered. Done some shopping for the apartment. The apartment looks very nice, all cleaned and varnished. Tonight Robert McHatton came to get Flicka to take her away to be trained. It is Mr. Dwight Mills. It is his horse that is the father of Flicka. It took them about 3 hours to get her loaded. They called Dick McDaniels and another guy. She was completely exhausted when they got her loaded. She fought it terribly.
