The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 6 - 9, 1980

Thursday, March 6, 1980 Carmen on honors at B News today

 

A very nice sunny day. I done regular work. Went to town with Betty. Came home, got lunch, watched the soaps. Finished putting the puzzle together. Fern went with us to get a permanent. Dorothea went to Portland for income tax etc. other things she had to do. Carmen went to the Dr. to have her toe checked. Bill made an appointment to go to the doctors tomorrow PM. In the B News today the LRH S honor roll. Carmen Horton was on the A and B honors.

 

 

 

Friday, March 7, 1980

 

A nice sunny day, snow is to come tomorrow. I washed my windows. Made some cookies. Bill up to Dorothea’s. David burned a pile of junk from his field today.

 

 

 

Saturday, March 8, 1980

 

Will this is been a messy day, about 8 inches of wet heavy snow. I done regular work, cooked, changed the beds, washed floors etc. Betty and girls working at the shelter today. Carmen and Kim called. Betty dropped in a few minutes. David burning the other pile of rubbish at his place today. They came down here tonight to take showers. They had several people call today to give them estimates on the projects that has to be done. Walt dropped in to get rolls. Dorothea and Dave here for supper. I started puzzle.

 

 

 

Sunday, March 9, 1980

 

A very nice day after all the snow of yesterday. Bill plowed this morning, good-sized snowbanks now. It is a very wet heavy snow. Bill and I called at Dorothea and David’s a few minutes. Betty called. Billie shoveled snow at Fern’s today. I finished puzzle.
