The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Februay 5 - 7, 1980

Tuesday, February 5, 1980 Carmen Christie Boutilier Horton Age 17 Years Today

Another one of those nice pretty sunny days. Temperature about zero at night to 20 to 25 during the day. I ironed early this morning. Done up my regular work. Down to Betty’s for a little while. She has dislocated her shoulder. Went to the doctor and had it put back. Also she and Joy up to New Hampshire to shop. I finished the scraps today. Prepared a birthday supper for Carmen. Also had Fern up. We had baked ham with the milk sauce. Lima beans, white sweet potatoes, celery, cukes, cottage cheese. Banana bread, Graham nut bread, hot biscuits and raspberry turnovers hot. Carmen enjoyed it so much. All in all she had a very nice birthday.

A beautiful day. I didn’t have much to do today. A few odds and end jobs. I got the papers read. Billie gone. Bill didn’t do anything either. Zak came up after school and he brought up some VERY GOOD SCHOOL PAPERS. He is trying and doing very well.

It was a dite cloudy today. I done up my work and went to town and down to Fern’s. Came home, watched programs all PM. Today we got the money from the bank account to let Dorothea and David have or to borrow to pay for their place.
