The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

The sun came up this morning but it clouded up and also got some rain showers. Fair most of the day. Well I had a very busy day. I did a lot of cooking. Cleaned up the house, washed the windows, dusted, cleaned all over. Busy as a parched pea all day. In evening Dorothea called and done her hair. Carmen gone to a party over to Danny Haye’s tonight with Richard.

Sunday, April 6, 1980 Easter Sunday

It turned out to be a beautiful day. We had Easter dinner. This year Dorothea and David came from their own home on the Ridge. Betty and family also Fern and Richard were here. Had a usual ham dinner and a good get together. In forenoon Kim and Carmen came up and helped to get the dinner etc. In late PM all went over to Betty’s for a farewell gathering for Billie Deming. He leaves tomorrow night for the service. Jeff and Paula were there also. After the party at Betty’s many went to Susan’s for another kind of party for Billie. That they didn’t need to do.
