The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 12 -15, 1980 Final Payment On Edson Farm

Tuesday, February 12, 1980 DOROTHEA AND DAVID

Today was a big day for Dorothea and David. They made their final payment to Dominic Cardosi for their farm. It is all in their name now. It is great to know they own it. They are pleased and excited too. Now comes the many improvements and repairs to be made which will be very expensive. Hope we all live to see the place in tip top shape. It will be worth a lot more than they paid for it. Also their new defiance stove came. Bill, Billie, Betty and I were there. Dorothea and David were at the bank doing their business. Billie signed up for unemployment today. Got a surprise from Esther by a letter, they don’t plan to come home this summer.

Another nice spring like day, sunny and mild. I done regular work, defrosted refrigerator, washed the bedroom windows. Got Valentines off, Betty and Joy’s birthday cards ready to go. Bill gone fishing with Ilan. First time since over a month. Billie out and in all day. No word from Dorothea about their house. I’m now afraid the party won’t be getting it.

I done regular work, washed and went to town. Done the shopping. Last day of school for a while, about 10 days. I did some more washing when I got home.

It got kind of cloudy last night, snow is predicted. I went to Norway with Betty, Zak and Kim. Came home, a beautiful day. Kim stayed, she started the puzzle. She stayed for supper and the night.
