The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 2 - 5, 1980

Sunday, March 2, 1980

 

It has been a very nice clear sunny day. I done up the regular work then Bill and I took a chicken up to Dorothea’s. I’ve read papers, did some figuring, checks made out etc. Later in evening Dorothea made her first visit. It seemed good to us to have her call. Also she was pleased to be able to drop in, also we called at Fern’s. We called at Betty’s too. They paid Walt and Billie.

 

 

 

Monday, March 3, 1980 $117.20, $266.70

 

This is been a beautiful day. Sunny and clear all day. I did my wash. Well, Dorothea called today, also Betty came up. It seems so good to have Dorothea near where she can call. She called about a telephone. It is to be installed Wednesday. Betty took Delores and I to town to cash the checks. Billie gone to the auction. It was beautiful last night, the moon was so bright.

 

 

 

Tuesday, March 4, 1980

 

A beautiful day. I did a dite of washing. I ironed early. Dorothea called to do some clothes, also down to Betty’s she called. Bill and Ilan went fishing for a little while. Billie out, called at Fern’s. Dorothea called about suppertime to get her clothes. Betty and Joy up to Shaw’s. I had Betty get me a few things.

 

 

 

Wednesday, March 5, 1980

 

Well it isn’t or hasn’t been very good today, snow, rain. I did a dite of cooking. Shampooed and put a rinse on my hair. I started the puzzle today. I did some ironing. I defrosted refrigerator. Bill and Billie didn’t go out much today. It got slippery.
