The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 29 - February 1, 1979

Monday, January 29, 1979

A quite nice day. I done my work then went down to Betty’s for a little while. She played the new record. I came home, got supper, watched TV programs. Bill had got the clothes in. It began to rain in late PM. It had been a nice sunny day, warm breeze which dried the clothes very good. It clouded up and rain in late PM.

It was cloudy in a.m. It rained and turned to snow. It snowed quite hard all evening. I done my ironing early in a.m. then I done regular work. Got a roast pork in cooking. Went with Betty down to Frances Clayton’s to get Fern. Joy was with us. Then she drove up, she and Joy got milk. Came back to Fern’s. We finished getting Lloyd’s clothes picked up. She will have Billie D come and to see if there is anything he wants.

A quite nice day, I done up my work. Betty took Delores and me to town. I came home, got things ready for supper etc. Then Betty came. About 2 we left and went up and got Joy. Then went to school, got Carmen and Laurie. We went to Westbrook and Dorothea went with us out to The Mall and around to get Carmen’s things for her birthday. Had supper at Capt. Newick’s seafood restaurant.
