The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It got colder today with some wind. Carmen came up with a harness on Flicka. Zak has a cold. He didn’t feel too good this afternoon. He and I played some games.

 


 

 

 

 

Thursday, December 28, 1978 girls up to Augusta today

 

A nice day. I got my work done up and went to town. Came home, did a big wash at Betty’s. They dried good. I did a lot of odds and end jobs. Betty had to work at the shelter today all day. Carmen, Zenya and Laurie went up to Augusta with Walt for the day. Zak is sick today. Bill called on Bill and Evelyn Ridlon today.

 

 

 

Friday, December 29, 1978 Kim gone with Walt today

 

A very beautiful day. I have been very busy all day. I did a wash, a big ironing. I washed the windows, dusted, fried donuts. In PM I did the figuring etc. Bill didn’t do anything except the chores at Betty’s. This morning Kim and Walt left to go to Walt’s sister’s for overnight. Zak had a bad cold and couldn’t go. Heidi sick today. She was sick and threw up all night.
