The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Monday, December 18, 1978 Lawrence H Boynton

It was very cold and windy today. I did the washing. I cooked a pot roast for supper. I made 3 pies. I watch the programs. Tonight as we were having supper Wes Gorman called Billie to tell him about Lawrence. He died suddenly at about noon. It was a very bad shock to us and a hard blow for Billie. He will be missed very much in many ways. Walt and Zak called in evening. Kim didn’t go to school.

Tuesday, December 19, 1978 Cold and Very Windy

Another clear cold and very windy day. I got my ironing done early and my housework and got ready and went to Westbrook with Betty, Joy, Susan, Dawn, Fern and I. We went down to see Dorothea and David’s new home and Christmas tree. It is just beautiful. All of it. They all was very impressed with their new home. Betty stayed and Walt picked her up and they all went (she and Walt) shopping. Betty said they had a very nice supper and a good time. We can’t believe Lawrence is gone. Kim home from school.
