The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 6 - 8, 1978 Uncle Lloyd

Wednesday, December 6, 1978

A nice clear day, but it got cloudy in PM. I did a big wash. They dried very good. I went down to Betty’s then Bill and I went up to Waterford and got some apples. Also got a pair of shafts for Betty’s new sleigh. I defrosted the refrigerator. Made a custard pie, first one since last summer. It was very good. Bill fixed Betty’s shafts for the sleigh. Carmen home with a bad cold.

It has been cloudy all day. First Susan, Delores and I went to town. Came home, had lunch then I finished wrapping. I got supper. We, Betty, Kim, Joy and Kathy went down and decorated Fern’s Christmas tree. Came home, watch the programs on TV. At 11 o’clock Betty got a phone call from the Andrews Nursing Home. Lloyd has had another shock. We went over as the doctors told them his condition is very serious. Betty went to Sumner to get Christmas trees to sell up to the shelter.

Well it was raining this morning when we got up. We got home from the nursing home at about 2 AM. Lloyd is improved and knew us all. I guess will be okay now.
