The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 2 - 5, 1975 Lil Edson Died

Tuesday, September 2, 1975 LIL EDSON

Rainy when we got up. It finally just became cloudy. I done up my regular work, went down to Betty’s. We cleaned her upstairs up. Tonight about suppertime Ruth Meade called that Lil died at 2 o’clock this p.m. We are glad she didn’t suffer a long time. Chet is taking it all quite well. He is all alone now. He has a good clear mind and can take care of things quite well. He is very very lame. Billie over there tonight.

Partly cloudy day but mostly sunny. I got my work done up early and down to Betty’s. Kim, Carmen and Zak’s clothes looked very nice. They were very pleased about going back. We worked up in the shed chamber after we got the downstairs cleaned up. Billie up to see Chet tonight. He is attending to his business very well.

A beautiful day, sunny and not too hot. I was down to Betty’s this morning. Dawn was there also. We got the goods for that barn sale set up. Came home, had lunch them Billie, Betty and I got ready and went to Lil’s funeral. A nice lot of flowers, very pretty and a most beautiful casket. Chet bought her a very pretty dress. He did all he could. Bill worked up to Camp Encore and at Betty’s. Zak stayed up tonight.
