The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 12 - 15, 1975 Billie Deming Graduation Party

Thursday, June 12, 1975 cloudy rainy day

It has been a cloudy and rainy dreary day. I was down to Betty’s a few minutes in a.m. Bill took me to town in p.m. Betty had company for supper, Norman Stanford and his two boys Donnie and Mark. Bill to the Dr. again today. Kimmy up here for supper tonight.

Friday, June 13, 1975

It rained so hard all day, some wind. I went to town, done some shopping. It has been such a miserable day. Bill didn’t do much, late in the p.m., it stopped raining and the grass dried so Bill mowed. Late tonight Joy and girls all came. Laurie and Debbie stayed up here. They have left Topsham. Going to Bermuda for three years.

Saturday, June 14, 1975

Another miserable day all day. I done up my regular work. Debbie and Laurie up early. Debbie went back to Topsham with her mother. Laurie stayed at Betty’s with the two little girls. Esther, Zak and I went to Westbrook to get the cake at Dorothea’s that she made for Billie Deming’s party. Zak here all day and stayed up here tonight.

Sunday, June 15, 1975 Party for Billie Deming

(standing) Jeff Smith, Uncle Cliff and Billie

It was cloudy in a.m. but late in p.m. it cleared quite a lot. So we was able to have the party outside for Bill. Today Esther gave a party here for Billie’s graduation. Dorothea made a cake. Billie got a big sum of money, billfold, watch, shaving cream and many cards. Those presents were from Fern, Lloyd, Joy, Buddy, Debbie, Laurie, Kathy and Cindy, Walt, Betty, Carmen, Kimberly, Zak, Robert and Pat, Jeff Smith, Bill, Billie and me. Susan, Mary Harmon, Vince, Chris and Monica, host and hostess Cliff and Esther and guest of honor Billie Deming. It was nice and all had a good time.
