The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 24 - 26, 1975 New Flagpole

Saturday, May 24, 1975 FLAGPOLE, Robert back in the hospital, test

Another nice day. I’ve been busy all day. Kim came up, we cooked, I washed and waxed floors. Bill worked at Betty’s most all day. Bill, Billie, Betty and Billie Deming raised the flag pole at Betty’s. What a job. They finally got it up. Robert and Steve Lyons called. Walt went to Portland to take a test for his real estate license. Kimmy led the calf outside on the this morning. We got the flowers in the flower garden tonight. I ironed, went to town with Betty. We got the plants for cemeteries. Robert had a very bad spell tonight and was taken back to the hospital.

Sunday, May 25, 1975 PLANTED, DEHUMIDIFIER

A nice day, sunny, but on the cool side with some wind. I done up my regular work. Washed. Dorothea came down to Betty’s. Then we got ready and went to the cemeteries with flowers for the grave. Came home to Betty’s and made ready for a cookout. It was a good meal. Fern and Lloyd were there. Dorothea was relaxed today and seemed to enjoy her visit. Bill and Billie planted the garden. Joy called down to Betty’s. She and Buddy went to the hospital to see Robert, he is more relieved. Betty and Carmen went with the Brackets to see a horse for Zenya. Billie sold his dehumidifier to Buddy. Bill is going to buy their new car.

Monday, May 26, 1975

A cloudy day and rain on and off. I helped Betty today to get her house cleaned up for her group meeting tomorrow. I made a rhubarb pie. I had Zak in PM. Betty went with the Brackets to look at a horse over to Lisbon. Carmen went too. Kim had company.
