The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 5 - 8, 1964

Friday, June 5, 1964

Cold today. I cleaned up the whole house. Went to town tonight. Betty got a letter from Mike. It made her happy. I went to town with Fern and Lloyd in a.m.

Saturday, June 6, 1964

A nice day on the cool side. But warmer than yesterday. Wyvern’s family came down, the kids came down here. Betty and I up to Waterford to take Bill’s watch up. Fern up for supper. Billie put the pigs out today.

Sunday, June 7, 1964

A nice warm day. Got up, done up the work. Got a lunch together and Fern got a lunch too. We took off, Fern, Lloyd, Billie and I and we went way off down to South Berwick to see the large farms and all the cattle. We had some rain tonight. It warmed up a lot.

Monday, June 8, 1964

Partly cloudy in most of the day. In p.m. it cleared off and sun came out, my clothes dried good. Betty and I upstairs in PM packing her wedding gifts, getting them ready for her to move, to where we don’t know. Right nearby we hope. I churned. Cooked a Swiss steak and we ironed in evening. Betty had a good day. Bonnie up and Aunt Ava called after supper.
