The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 27 -29, 1989

Monday, March 27, 1989 Living Room

Very mild temp. Today Betty, Dorothea, Carmen, Betty and Brogan came early this morning to start the living room papering. I did the washing. They went right to work and got the papering to going. Carmen and I with Brogan went to town, done some errands. Betty Smith worked hard all day washing dishes, pictures. Carmen worked hard all day. She was pooped when she went home. She got the new curtains and drapes up. We got the new couch in. It looks beautiful. Kim came up to for a while, she too helped.

Tuesday, March 28, 1989 60° temps

Betty and Carmen came, we did the glass cupboard in the kitchen and draws. Other odd and end jobs. Carmen and Kim went to Windham to get some things. It was a very nice sunny mild 50 to 60° temps. In evening Dorothea, Joy and Betty called while out on their daily walk. The living room looks very nice. We like it very much. Billie got haircut.

Enjoying an Easter Treat!

Wednesday, March 29, 1989 temp up in the 60s early, cleaned kitchen

Well the temperature climbed high last night. It was very mild all night. The snow went a lot last night. I got up early, got the breakfast, made the beds etc. Then Betty and Carmen came early and got cleaning in the kitchen. Did the cupboards all done upper and lower. Then in PM cleaned rest of the kitchen. Carmen ironed the curtains, washed the windows and put them up. I watched shows. Billie went and got grain. It began to cool off and get quite cold and cloudy in PM.
