The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 20 - 22, 1989

 

Tuesday, June 20, 1989

 

A very nice day, quite hot. Some cloudys or haze around. I done my regular work. I did my ironing. Then I got a pot roast going for supper. Carmen, Brogan, Kim, Betty all called. Carmen went to town, done the shopping. Betty and Carmen, Kim up to the new house to see the new cupboards they had put in today. Jason up cleaning up along the walls etc. up there. Billie down to the shed to clean it out. Billie has an awful cold now and sore throat. Betty’s chest is bothering her a lot today. They took Minnie out for a ride in her wheelchair today.

 

 

 

Wednesday, June 21, 1989 HOT AT LAST

 

This is been a very hot day, waited for a long time for it. I didn’t do much today odds and end jobs. Carmen and Brogan came. Zack came in PM. Billie cultivated the garden late this PM for the first time. They brought rest of the water for Dorothea’s pool. Grace Warren’s funeral today.

 




 

 

Thursday, June 22, 1989 HOT AGAIN

 

We are so glad to see this change of weather. A week without rain. Zack got the car home, the light put in. Carmen and Brogan called also Kim. Kim got lunch. She took her puppy over and had her altered. She is a nice puppy. Carmen and Brogan up to camp to go swimming. Betty been busy mowing and working up to the lot. Billie had to take the Rototiller over to be repaired again. Carmen and Brogan here for supper.
