The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 16 - 19, 1987

 

Wednesday, September 16, 1987

 

A nice sunny day. I dite breezy. I got my work done up. Then I went down to Betty’s to see Zack’s new drafting and computer table. Also to see how nice his apartment looks. Also the rest of the house looks very nice especially those new bedrooms. I came home. She and Bill up to New Hampshire to get some material for Barry to use a Kim’s. Billie done the lawns. Carmen supposed to work at the hospital but was very sick with asthma. Betty and I over to Carmen’s.

 

 

 

Thursday, September 17, 1987

 

A nice day, sunny all day. I did the washing. Carmen and Betty worked over to the shed today. Carmen and Brogan called. Carmen is a dite better. She worked at Betty’s again today. Billie and I over to Oxford and got some vegetables and called at the Shop and Save store.

 

 

 

Friday, September 18, 1987

 

Cloudy most all day. I done up the regular work, made a apple pie for supper. Betty and I called at Kim’s. This PM Debbie and daughters called. Also Betty Smith and her niece Eva called. Betty came up about suppertime. She had Brogan. Zack got his new lights put on his truck 4 x 4. Billie busy all day until soap time.

 



 

 

 

 

Saturday, September 19, 1987

 

This is been a dark cloudy day. I been very busy all day. I done up the regular work. I washed floors. I made a cake, made biscuits for supper. I prepared and canned another mess of tomatoes. Milan called. Carmen and Brogan here for supper. Eddie was down today. Zack over to Carmen’s and helped her. They got a lot done outside. Carmen said it looked nice. Zack got sick this PM and didn’t come up for supper. Brogan is so cute all the time. We all worship the ground she stands on. Betty and Walt gone to Rhode Island.
