The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 25 - 27, 1987 THANKSGIVING 1987

Wednesday, November 25, 1987

 

Well, a nice day, not very cold. I went down to Betty’s a while. I made a pie. Zack came home at noon from school, he is sick. A stomach problem. I watched my shows at Betty’s. She worked outside. Carmen and Kim out shopping. Betty and Carmen cleaned the house.

 

 

 

Thursday, November 26, 1987 Thanksgiving at Betty and Walt’s

 

Betty and the girls got a very nice delicious dinner with the works. Only 10, Bill, Billie, Fern and me there besides the family. It snowed and rained all day. Not very good traveling. Carmen and Kim had to work. Betty Smith a lot better today. They want able to come over. Betty sent their dinner down. Zack was sick also Walt didn’t feel too well.

 

 


 

Friday, November 27, 1987

 

A beautiful day. I didn’t get up very early. I did the wash and all of the ironing. The plumber came and fixed the blue bathroom water bowl. Had to put in a new part. Billie went and got his car inspected. Zack up this morning, he is better. He put some mice poisoning up over breezeway. Eddie came to Kim’s today. Also Carmen and Brogan all down to Betty’s.
