The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

October 18 - 19, 1987 Nanny and Poppa's Anniversary and Road Trip to VT

Sunday, October 18, 1987 Been wed 57 years

It has been a very nice day, sunny and mild. David came, he and Billie worked on a faucet in the barn. Bill been reading. I wrote Es, Peg and Kathy. Barry, Walt and Zack worked on the fence. Well in PM had an invitation down to Betty and Walt’s for supper and a money tree. For supper baked delicious ham with all the trimmings, spinach greens. A very nice tossed salad, onion rings. A beautiful anniversary cake and ice cream. Coffee and soft drinks. Betty’s family, Walt, Betty, Kim, Zack, Carmen, Dennis, Brogan, Milan and Betty, Dorothea, David, Fern, Bill, Billie and I. It was very nice, a large amount of money.

Monday, October 19, 1987 Vermont Trip

Well up very early this morning. Got breakfast, got ready and we, Betty, Carmen, Kim, Zack and me left about 7:30 to go to Vermont. We also went up into Canada. It was a beautiful ride. We liked it up there. The towns and all. Betty and them looked at some land they would like to buy. Didn’t get home very early. Bill and Billie had to make their own meals.
