The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, October 24, 1987 Spread Lime

A nice sunny day. Billie and Zack spread a lot of the lime today at Walt’s. Carmen works this weekend. Kim worked all week. Betty up this morning. I was vacuuming and she finished it. I didn’t do much today, did the regular work, washed floors. David came down, he isn’t very good, looks bad.

Rain in morning early then it cleared and Billie and Zack finished the lime. It was a beautiful day. Bill didn’t feel very good. Billie got completely exhausted doing that lime. It got all over him, mouth, ears, throat and all. Zack got very tired too. Steady hard work. Walt started a weeks vacation today.

Today Betty and Kim got the two bedrooms done and Kim had to go to work at 1:30 so Betty finished the bathroom and rest of the rest of the bedroom. I did a big big wash. Curtains, bedding, dog bed etc. We had a good supper, the tuna fish casserole Betty brought. Carmen couldn’t come today. We missed Brogan.

A beautiful day. Well they got here early and got the living room and most of the kitchen done. Betty got the windows all done on the outside. They all did very well and very good. Carmen to town to shop. I did a big ironing. Also we have new curtains in the living room. They look very nice. Vince started a short time jail sentence today. I’m very sorry. He brought this on himself. I hope he never will do it again. I love him. He is okay.
