The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, June 14, 1977 LAURIE AND DEBBIE

And last a real nice day. I went down to Betty’s in a.m. She mowed lawns. I helped her clean her house, also did some washing. Dawn didn’t come up today. In PM I did a lot of things at home. About 4:30 we Betty, Carmen, Kim, Zak and I all left, went to Dawn’s, she too came, we went to the airport. There we had supper and waited for the plane. At 7:30 PM the plane arrived and Laurie and Debbie came off the plane. We was so glad to see them. They are two very nice girls.

Thursday, June 16, 1977 KIM TO THE NCM Hospital, a quite nice day

I did a big big wash. It was all of Chet’s clothes which fit Bill and Billie. Today Kim has been up here all day sick in bed. Betty was down to Dawn’s to help her mowed lawns. They came home at noon. Kim seemed a dite better. But she began to grow worse. I called Betty. (She and Dawn were working in the garden) and she called the Dr. and Herman answered. He said to bring her right down to the hospital and the soon as he examined her he admitted her. She is very very sick. Asthmatic bronchitis, possibly pneumonia. Bill finished the bus. He done a very good job.
