The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 9 - 12, 1977 Easter and Kim Turns 11

Saturday, April 9, 1977

I have been busy all day preparing for tomorrow, cooked, washed, ironed. Betty and Carmen at the bake sale all day. Kim home with Zak until Walt got home. Then she went with Billie to get butter. It has been a very cold day and awful windy. Calf about the same.

Sunday, April 10, 1977 Easter

Today we had a Easter dinner and entertain the Hortons, Thomases, Fern and Dawn. In p.m. Cliff and Esther came, Billie D, Jeff Adair and a friend. Also we had Kim’s 11th birthday party. She got many nice gifts and $39 in money. It has been awful cold. The snow went a lot though. Calf better.

I wanna know what is going on here with Zak and Aunt Fern!

Today has been a very nice warm day. (65 – 70°) after such a very long, very cold and windy spell of weather. It was below zero when we got up and finally the temperature began to climb. It was so good. The weather forecast said tonight cooler weather is coming back so there you are. Zak has been up here today, he has a bad head cold. Betty to a Portland with Carmen for a checkup, also over to Auburn to get the red VW. Dawn came up. I cleaned the bureau draws and bathroom draws and cupboards. Kim 11 today. She was up here for supper.
