The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 25 - 28, 1977 Chet Sold His Farm

Monday, April 25, 1977 CHET SOLD FARM

Cloudy and rainy. Another miserable looking day. I went to town, we took Delores to her doctors appointment. Also I cleaned my cellar, what a mess from that furnace with the black soot came from it last winter. Bill made a table for Fern. Chet not at all good. He sold his farm to DOMINIC CARDOSI.

Tuesday, April 26, 1977 Billie began diet, NEW CAR

Cloudy all day, I washed and the clothes dried but no sun. Today cleaned the refrigerator and electric stove. Also went to town. Betty and Dawn still working in the kitchen. Walt brought the parts home for the new stove and got it going. It is working good. This p.m. Cliff and Esther bought a brand-new car, light tan or ivory. Chet not better, about the same, he got to have an operation.

Wednesday, April 27, 1977 got a harrow

Cloudy and showers in early a.m., it partly cleared about 10:30. It seemed good to see the sun, first time since Friday. I done my regular work and ironed. Down to Betty’s and did all her washing for her. She had a big wash. Today Bill went down to Ed Main and bought a used garden harrow. It is in good condition. Billie’s diet nurse called.

Rain showers but some sun. I did a big wash. I ironed for Betty. Bill fixed sewer and smoothed the ditch down through the field. Betty and Dawn still working on cupboards. Today the newspaper reporter called at Betty’s for a write up about the new animal shelter. They took pictures of Bev and the cats.
