The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 4 - 6, 1976 Kim home from MMC

Saturday, September 4, 1976 KIMBERLEY HOME

Today Betty and Walt went to the Maine Medical Center in Portland to get Kimmy. She was discharged this morning. She is very glad to get back home. She is kind of weak and white complexioned, but okay. We are very glad to see her. I have been to town. I done up all my work, washed floors, dusted, a dite of cooking, baked beans. Esther went to town with us. Billie took it kind of easy.

Sunday, September 5, 1976

A very nice sunny day. I done my regular work, changed all the beds, I washed, made a pie. Washed back porch floor, cleaned all my white shoes. Went to town. In p.m. Billie went down and got FERN AND LLOYD and brought them up for afternoon and supper. They enjoyed it all very much, especially Fern. This started out for a very hot day but a westerly wind came up and it was nice and cool. Later in the evening it got quite cool. Kimmy doing quite well. She is still quite weak and pale but feels okay. Zak been away all day to a friend of his. He is up here for the night. School buses of Lake Region got wrecked last night by a bunch of hoodlums. Hope school will get going on time.
