The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

August 28 - 30, 1976 Irish Rovers!

Saturday, August 28, 1976 HOT, KIM AND IRISH ROVERS

It has been a very hot and humid day. I rushed around, got my work done. About 2 PM Betty, Walt, Zak came. We, Bill and I was ready. We went to the hospital to see Kim. She looked very pale. Didn’t feel good at all. She was tired and didn’t care if we stayed or not. We went to the Red Coach Grill afterwards for supper. That was such a swanky place. Had a very good meal. Then we went to the Portland City Hall to see the personal appearance of the Irish ROVERS. They were so good. I enjoyed the show very much, so did Bill. Carmen went with us. Betty and Walt went out to the mall and around.

Sunday, August 29, 1976 KIMMEY NOT AT ALL GOOD, Robert not too good

More of a breeze than yesterday, still very hot. Betty, Joy and I went to Portland. We found Kimmy not feeling very good, her blood pressure still up. She is sore all over. Tired and sleepy. Didn’t mind if we left her. We heard from Dorothea, Betty phoned her. She is all upset over Jeff. He has broken up with his girlfriend. I hope everything will be all right. Billie did lawns and up to Chet’s. The show we saw last night performed by the IRISH ROVERS was so good last night. I enjoyed it so much. We had a very nice evening. Thought of Kim though, she seemed better. They moved Robert back to special care. A bad spell. Joy down to see him yet he was in good spirits.

Monday, August 30, 1976 COLD AND WINDY, KIM MOVED

This is been a very cold and windy day. Zak has been inside most of the day. He enjoyed being here. Billie been trimming the weeds etc. out of the fields. Then he and the kids, Carmen and Zak, cut green feed for the horses. I washed, defrosted the kitchen refrigerator. Betty and Joy stayed at Dorothea’s last night to talk to her. She is very worried about Jeff. Kim was moved from the intensive care unit back to the orthopedic floor today. She is much improved. Robert is not too good, he is so tired and exhausted and discouraged too.
