The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

It has been quite a nice day. I did some washing and ironed. Baked beans, made a cake and apple pie for Pat and family. Betty and I took them over. I washed floor, cleaned up the house and Kimmy dusted for me. Billie been doing a lot of fall jobs today. Bill worked on the ditch. This evening Betty, Carmen, Kim and I went down to the funeral parlor. Robert looks so nice and has a lot of nice-looking flowers.

Bill down to Walt’s in p.m. Kimmy stayed up here most of the day. She thoroughly enjoys being alone and she is very quiet. Billie up to Chet’s in p.m. Tonight I went down to the funeral parlor with Betty. Robert has some of the most beautiful lot of flowers I have seen. It has begun to rain tonight.

Monday, October 25, 1976 ROBERT’S FUNERAL

Cloudy, a dite of rain. We got up and had breakfast and rushed around to get breakfast, done up the work. Got down to the funeral parlor at about 9:30. Ronald and Joy came and picked us up. (Joy had Bill’s car). It was a very nice service by the Rev. Swanson. Robert looked nice, a beautiful casket. There was a lot of people at the funeral and a lot went to the cemetery. It didn’t rain. Cloudy. Bearers for Robert were Robert Hatch, Neil Patterson, Mark Patterson, Wyvern Smith, Rayburn Smith and David Jones. After the service all were invited to Pat’s for gathering. Dorothea called in evening, also Esther and Cliff. Rain began during this evening.
