The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 3 - 5, 1976 Kim's Teeth (A Red Letter Day)

Thursday, June 3, 1976 $198.40 $85.70 KIM TEETH

Another nice sunny day except a few late p.m. clouds. They disappear. To town in a.m. I done a lot of shopping, grocery. Came home and got of bite to eat and got ready, went down, cashed the checks, paid the bills, put some away for taxes. I cleaned my kitchen stove and refrigerator today. Esther over tonight. We went down to Betty’s. Today the doctor put on a metal frame like to hold Kimmy’s gums and prepare her mouth for the braces. She is to have this outfit for about one year. This is going to be a very long siege the doctors said, it would take from now until she is through high school, until she is 17 or 18. So I’ll be keeping this in my diary for a long time. Thelma and John Briggs (Carmen and Kim’s great-grandmother) was up to see the colt horse etc. tonight.

He went to Brownfield with Lawrence. I put the finishing touches on to the work around here, all ready for company. Betty mowed the lawns at her house.
