The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, July 11, 1976 Quite a nice day

This is been quite a nice day weatherwise. I done my regular wash and work. Zak had breakfast, went home middle of forenoon. They had a cookout at Betty’s. And friends, not her old folks as she usually has except for Joy and family. There were ones never there before for a cookout with them. They had the best time, played ballgames etc. It was such a nice day. Billie relaxed most of today also. He brought Chet down to his place a little while. Betty, Carmen and Laurie up here in evening. Joy’s three girls stayed at Betty’s tonight because Joy and Buddy are going to Topsham tomorrow.

Monday, July 12, 1976 Rain

When we got up it was raining very hard. It was a showery day, thundershowers and all. I done my regular work. I did a big ironing. Bill worked on the door steps. I went down to Betty’s to babysit while she, Carmen and Laurie went somewhere. Three of Joy’s kids stayed over last night. Robert is much better. He is moved into a regular room now.
