The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 26 - 29, 1975 Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 26, 1975

A beautiful day. I cooked and was very busy all day. We went to hospital to see Kennard in evening. He was pretty good.

Thursday, November 27, 1975 Thanksgiving day, SNOW

This was Thanksgiving Day. Hortons here. Turkey, mashed potato, sweet potato, stuffing, gravy, turnip, onions, squash, shell beans, celery, olives, cranberry sauce, rolls, dark bread. Lemon sponge pie, custard pie, chocolate pie, tarts, cookies and cake. Had a good time. All enjoyed everything. A bad snow storm, about 4 inches.

Cloudy day, some sun. I didn’t get up until about seven. I done regular work, washed, done some figuring. Down to Betty’s to be with Kim while they went (Betty, Walt and Zak) to Norway. Billie went down to Betty’s and took care of the manure spreader and trailer and tractor. A very damp day, foggy some. Billie plowed Lloyd and Bert Downey. Milan called tonight, they had a nice dinner.

Saturday, November 29, 1975

A quite nice day. I done up work, baked beans, went to Norway with Betty. She took me to town. I stayed with Kim in p.m. while she took Lloyd to town. Phil Saltman called. Paid Bill. Billie up to Chet’s to bury dog. They didn’t kill him. Bill didn’t do anything. Not good for his health. He is so uneasy at times.
