The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 11 - 13, 1975

Tuesday, November 11, 1975 PERMANENT, KIM HAIR CUT

A nice sunny day, clear, not too cold. I did a dite of washing. No school. Walt didn’t have to work. Carmen called. Dorothea and David came up. They, Dorothea and Betty went to see Kennard. He was under heavy sedation. He is very bad. Susan and children called to get the milk. In p.m. Kimmy and I went to June’s. I got a perm and Kim got a haircut shag. Billie had to work, has time off for Thanksgiving. Bill just sat all day, got up to eat every little while. Nothing to do for once.

Wednesday, November 12, 1975 heavy Frost

Betty went to the coffee meeting. I did some washing. Down to Betty’s early in a.m. till she went. Bill got new tires for his car. Kids back-to-school after holiday. We took Delores down to the hospital. Kennard looks very bad. He is getting worse all the time now. We went down in the evening too.

Thursday, November 13, 1975 Call from hospital

It was a heavy rain all day. This morning Delores got a call from the hospital. Kennard had a change for the worse. Bill took Delores, Fern and me right down. He looked awful when we got there. Kennard didn’t change much more and we all went back in the evening. He knew us all. Betty had to go down to Gorham to get her meat so she came down afterward. I did some washing for Betty. Billie home sick all day. Bill gave me $100 for Christmas money. Walt up to Augusta all day and tonight.
