The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 22 - 25, 1975

Saturday, November 22, 1975

This is been quite a nice day after the awful rain last night. Kimmy up here all night and today. She had a good time, helped to cook, clean up the house. She was relaxed. I cleaned up the house, washed floors etc. Billie went with Lawrence all afternoon and evening. We went to see Kennard, he was more alert tonight.

Sunday, November 23, 1975 clear and some clouds

A very nice sunny day, on the cool side. Ground froze some. I done regular work and a big wash. In p.m. Betty, Zak, Kim, Gabe, Freya, Jingle and I all went down to mark Christmas trees. Billie didn’t do much. Went with Lawrence a little while, up to Chet’s. Bill didn’t do anything, to town, got the paper, out in the car a couple times. Slept. Billie Deming came over to get his milk. He stayed for supper, he was real pleased. He is quite a guy now. Very polite and respectable. Pat and Bob went to see Kennard, he is about the same.

Posing for Christmas cards is not easy with a donkey! Gabe got more and more angry as we TRIED to get a good photo. This isn't even all of the gems snapped that day!

What am I wearing?????

Monday, November 24, 1975 SNOW

It was clear when we got up. It clouded up very cold. Well I done up my regular work. Fern came about eight to wash and down to Betty’s to wash and dry. After they got through about 10:30 we left to go to Portland. We did some Christmas shopping. It began to snow in early evening. In evening we, Betty, Delores and I went down to see Kennard. He isn’t so good tonight. Fern got her washer and dryer in today.
