The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 14 - 17, 1975

Friday, November 14, 1975 FLU SHOTS

I called the hospital, Kennard about the same, had a fair night they said. Bill took me to town shopping. Betty took Susan to Naples to see about trading her car. In evening we went to the hospital to see Kennard. Brud was there. Walt came home tonight after staying up to Augusta last night. Bill worked at Betty’s today. She and I worked on Christmas orders.

A quite nice day. I done up regular work, done a dite of cooking. Kimmy here all day. Bill not doing much today. Bill sick all day with a cold. Betty and kids had flu shots yesterday and didn’t feel too good today.

It was cloudy when we got up but it cleared quite well. I done up my regular work. Washed in PM, went to the movies with Betty and children. Came home, worked on the scraps and Carmen was here for supper. Billie is more relaxed now, his work is all caught up for fall. Bill still not feeling too good.

Monday, November 17, 1975 Susan moved, Bill at Camp Encore

I done up regular work, washed a few things then Fern came and did her washing. Then we went down to Betty’s and finished her washing. While Fern and I were there we picked over about 15 pounds of dry red kidney beans for Betty. Mary Ann Weston called on Betty. Then Betty went to help Susan to move. Susan and the kids have done very well since they moved to Esther’s last summer.  We, Delores, Betty and me went to see Kennard, he is very bad. It is so awful to see him like this.
