The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 23 - 25, 1975

Sunday, March 23, 1975

A beautiful day, but quite windy. I done my regular work and a big wash. I went up to Waterford with the Horton family to see BJ and her little colt. She is a very nice horse and has a very cute baby. A male. I made an oyster stew and a custard. Billie busy all day and up to Chet’s. Bill didn’t do anything except watch TV all day.

It was sunny and bright when we got up. It got hazy and toward night very cloudy. In a.m. Betty and I went to see Dorothea. She is doing alright in her nursing course, it is quite hard for her to study with all of her housework etc. We bought sandwiches and came home and that is what we had for lunch. Esther to the doctors again. She has to enter the hospital on Wednesday for testing of the ulcer in her stomach. I hope and pray she will be all right. If she is to be operated on it will be a long serious operation. She and Cliff called here in evening. I ironed in PM.

Betty went to her meeting this forenoon. I done my regular work and done a big wash. Bill didn’t do anything. Betty called Robinson for him but nothing came of it. Billie is so uptight all the time.
