The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 16 - 19, 1975

A saved Scrap from Nanny's Scrapbook

Sunday, March 16, 1975

A beautiful day. Sunny and mild. I done my regular work and then a big wash. Dorothea and Dave called. Dorothea is tired and quite upset. She is trying to study to get to be an LRN nurse. Her house work and driving Jeff around so much also worrying about Jeff and the things he does and considers doing. She was quite upset and tired. The worry, work and anxiety is too much for her.

Monday, March 17, 1975 sunny and mild

Another very nice March day. Sunny and very mild, the old snow settled a lot. I done up my regular work, down to Betty’s for a couple hours. Came home, washed out a few things, made a pudding. Been thinking of Dorothea a lot today. Went up to Waterford with Betty to get milk and butter.

Tuesday, March 18, 1975 three letters I wrote

A nice day, not quite as mild as the past two days. I done up my work early. I went down to see Betty’s new sweeper. I ironed, mended and wrote three letters. Thena, Agnes Celia and Stanley.

Wednesday, March 19, 1975

Well it is been cloudy today but the snow has melted just the same. Betty over to Twitchell’s with Dawn and she got a new 15 ft.(?) deep freezer. Bill rode down to help Dawn and Betty unloaded. Zak was up here. Also I had Judd.
