The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 19 - 22, 1967


Monday, June 19, 1967

Fair, cold and windy. I didn’t get up very early. 8:30. Jeff slept till late also. I went to town, Betty came up after me. I came home, done a little picking up in my bedroom and got that all straightened out. Joy and girls called. Kim better. Bill and Billie put on some more finishes around the eves. Myron Fitch worked on wall. Bill to work at 4 AM.



Tuesday, June 20, 1967 RAIN

Another cold miserable day. I went down to Betty’s with Fern, Lloyd. Jeff down there too, the boys from the house up here and called this morning. I did some work in my bedroom and it sure looks better. Dorothea and Dave up tonight, brought up a blueberry pie, cupcakes and baked beans. Jeff went with them. Walt at Betty’s tonight.



Wednesday, June 21, 1967 RAIN

I worked in my kitchen, rearrange the dish draws etc. Cleaned all up. What a horrible horrible miserable weather. Had beans for supper, very good. Dorothea brought them up last night. Gordon up tonight but didn’t get much done. Sally, Vicki and friend called also.

Thursday, June 22, 1967 RAIN

A miserable wet nasty rainy day. Betty and kids came up. We went down cellar and got the things up out of the water. Some things are wet and ruined. Betty took hers home. Bill and Billie can’t do anything tonight. Bought insulation They got two strips of insulation on. I called at Mrs. Stanford’s. Ken and Delores here in early evening. Walt at Betty’s tonight.
