The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 17 - 20, 1967

Monday, July 17, 1967

Foggy. It cleared in forenoon and it was a beautiful day. I did a big wash. Betty had to go to Portland. I had the kids. I went down to Betty’s in evening a little while. Billie worked for Lawrence all day. Mrs. Stanford and boys called.

Tuesday, July 18, 1967

I went down to Betty’s early and stayed with the kids while she went to town. Then I had them here for rest of the day while she went to Portland. Also Heidi. Billie mowed tallgrass around the house. He went down to Berwick with Lawrence in p.m. I washed.

Wednesday, July 19, 1967 Es, Sue and Bill came

Foggy in early a.m. Cleared. Billie, Bobby Stanford, Carmen and I went to Norway. I got Carmen and Kim some clothes. Billie got some fence wire. And a pail for me and one for himself. Esther, Susan and Billie and a friend of Susan’s came about 4:30. Kim is sick tonight. Bill, Billie, Keith Bryant, Mike Fitch and Norm Stanford moved the deep freeze up.

Me checking out the 'deep freeze'

Thursday, July 20, 1967
