The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 24 - 27, 1967

Monday, April 24, 1967

A cloudy rainy miserable day. I washed, was also late getting it done. Bill and Gordon worked on the house. Even though it rained by showers.

Tuesday, April 25, 1967

A nice sunny day. Very windy and cold. I done up my regular work. Up to the new house a couple times. I got my clothes in and ironed. Bill and Gordon got the roof boarded in today. In evening I went down to Dorothea’s with Sal while she took Vicki back to college. Kim is getting along fine, cutting some more teeth.

Wednesday, April 26 1967 PIGS

A beautiful day. I done up my regular work. Up to the new house most all day. Mrs. Carter called. Bill and Gordon got the sides all boarded in today. Aunt Ava and Lloyd was over today. Billie bought two pigs tonight.

Thursday, April 27, 1967 Swing Set came

Sun shining this morning. I done up my work. Walked up to the house early. It is so pleasant up there. They worked on the ditch today around the cellar and put gravel in the cellar. Started to work on the gable ends but found out they could haul gravel in so they put pipe in around house. Mr. Hayes came with Carmen and Kims swingset today. She is enjoying it. Mr. Stevens came to see about upholstering chairs.
