The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 19 - 23, 1959



Friday, June 19, 1959

It rained today some. Late in p.m. it cleared off. In a.m. Bill took Esther to town. In p.m. he took me to town.



Saturday, June 20, 1959

A very nice day. Done some cooking. So glad to see the sun. Bill back to work. Billie and I down to Ferns. Susan and I took a walk down through the woods in p.m.

Sunday, June 21, 1959

A very nice day. We did regular work. In p.m. cleaned out the playpen. Also Carlton, Phyllis and girls called. In evening Fern and Lloyd and Bob.



Monday, June 22, 1959

Cloudy and rain showers. We washed at noon. Billie took me to town to get some pills for Bill. In p.m. Leasice and Hope came up and played with Susan. In late p.m. Cindy came down and played with Susan and here for supper. After supper Carlton and Phyllis and Linda came up and got Cindy.



Tuesday, June 23, 1959

I got Dr. Nash’s room ready for him today. Esther went on a picnic with Carlton and family, also Susan. I took care of Billie. In p.m. Esther ironed and got supper. Betty up to Dawn’s.
