The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Today Anse Buzzell came and bought Billie’s big heifer. Carmen and Kim here, they got the lunch today. I did a wash. Zack bulldozing up to the shelter lot. Barry and son Jason called. He is going to build me a cupboard on the breezeway. Bill is about the same.

A nice day in the morning. It began to cloud up in later PM. Not too hot. Billie over to Oxford, got green peas and strawberries and some things at the grocery store. Came home, watched TV. Gordon came and raked and baled the hay. They got it all in. We was worried for fear he wouldn’t get it in. Didn’t know whether he was coming or not to rake and baled. Zak worked up to the lot all day.

A mostly cloudy day. We got rain early this morning and during the day. Billie hauled his dressing onto the garden. Betty came and brought up some brown bread she made. In late PM we got a lot of rain and thundershowers. I’m sure glad they got that hay in yesterday. I done up regular work. Washed floors etc.

It was cleared off when we got up this morning. It has been a nice day. I done up the work. Walt up for coffee. Betty called and wanted to know if I would like to go up to Flint Mountain way up in Waterford to see a attractive old farm house on a dead-end road. Bill went. Got tired though. Dorothea called this p.m.
