The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 15 - 18, 1988

 

Wednesday, June 15, 1988 HOT

 

Another very hot day. I did a dite of washing. Bill’s feet are swollen awful bad. He don’t feel very good. Billie been busy all forenoon, watched shows in PM to get rested. I did my ironing today. I went up to camp with Brogan and Carmen. They heard noises in the woods tonight. Zak went up to swim and that made them feel better. Zak finished the driveway and done a good job.

 

 

 

Thursday, June 16, 1988

 

Another very hot day. I did a diate of washing then sat around. Betty prepared my supper and washed the dishes. Kim called today. Betty and Betty up to camp. Bill still not good. Feet are swollen a lot. Betty and Betty up to camp again tonight. Zak started on the lot up to Kim’s.

 

 

 

Friday, June 17, 1988

 

Another very hot day. I did a wash. Made two rhubarb pies. I did some other odds and ends jobs. I got rest of B Nnews all read. Didn’t see Brogan today. Not quite so hot today.

 

 

 

Saturday, June 18, 1988

 

A nice day, not so hot. I washed floors, done up the housework. I baked beans. I made a chocolate layer cake. Dorothea and David here today, she brought a card and money for Father’s Day. Also Kim came. She stayed for supper. I was glad she came. We sat out on the swing. Zak finished the driveway. Billie and I rode over the new driveway tonight. It is very good. Cleaning up the mess etc. Billie helped. It looks nice.
