The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 19 - 22, 1988

 

Sunday, June 19, 1988

 

It has been a very nice day. I done up the regular work. Then I did some figuring. Wrote letter. Kim called. Betty and Walt called. Zack came and helped Billie. Then Carmen came and we saw Brogan. We sat out in the swing.

 


 

 

Monday, June 20, 1988 STONES CAME

 

A very hot day. I did a wash. Carmen came and cleaned. Also Kim was here. She helped to do some things. Zack called for breakfast and lunch. He worked on the lot up to Kim’s. Billie did a lot today, he worked on the mowing machine. He worked in the garden. Betty worked all day cleaning the barns, worked in her garden. Today they brought over gravestones came today. They are very pretty. Kids and I went down to see them. In evening Betty came up and she took Bill and I down also we went over to Joy’s to see hers. Joy called also Dorothea called. Carmen and Brogan. Zack over to babysit for Brogan while Carmen worked, he was there for supper too.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 21, 1988

 

This is been a nice day quite hot first part of the day. It was breezy in PM. Carmen down to Betty’s in a.m. Moved chickens etc. She came up here, got lunch. She went to town. She painted breezeway floor. She and Brogan here for supper. Billie took Zak out for supper for his graduation treat. He get his haircut. Billie also done some jobs. Bill not too good today.

 

 

 

Wednesday, June 22, 1988

 

A nice hot day. I didn’t do too much. Brogan here in late PM for a short time. Betty mowed with the new mower today. In the evening she and I and Joy called at Betty S. We looked at Esther’s box and Milan’s. Betty came up, we settled the breezeway. It looks so nice. The new painted floor and the new rug. Bill a dite better.
