The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 12 - 14, 1988 Zak's Graduation Party

 

Sunday, June 12, 1988 ZACK’S FAMILY GRADUATION PARTY AT CAMP

 

Got work done up early. Walt up for coffee. Kim took me up about 1 PM. First Carmen and I down to Betty’s so they can get rest of the food ready. It was nice up there, awful hot. They all went swimming, Brogan loves it. Zak had a lot of nice gifts and a big sum of money. Had a nice steak cookout.

 



 



 






Monday, June 13, 1988 HOT HOT

 

It has been very hot all day, 80 to 85°. I did a wash. I prepared a salad for supper. I did a wash. Watched TV soaps in PM. The gravel came for the driveway into the Cemetery. Carmen worked today at the hospital. Kimmy painted the swing chair, it looks so nice. Billie to town and got his medicine and grain. Zak called, he went to town too. Betty called in evening. Betty and Kim worked in her garden all PM.

 

 

 

Tuesday, June 14, 1988 HOT

 

This has been a very hot day. I didn’t do much. Carmen came and cleaned, went to town. I made another salad for supper. Betty and Betty up to camp. Zak and Billie worked on the tractor putting the mowing machine on. Billie liked to collapse. Watched shows in PM. Zack worked on the driveway.
