The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 20 - 23, 1987

Monday, July 20, 1987

I did a big wash. Carmen came and cleaned. Changed beds etc. She didn’t have Brogan. She went to Lewiston to visit her grandparents. They got a great lot of fun out of her actions. We had a good supper and had Zack up. He enjoyed it a lot. He was more relaxed than last evening.

Tuesday, July 21, 1987

Cloudy and a dreary day. I did regular work. I did a big ironing. Billie picked some string beans. Had them for supper. Milan, Betty called also Dorothea and Dot, Lorraine and Jason. Well, we got to watch the afternoon soaps. Kim up for breakfast. She had to work. Carmen worked from 4:30 to 8:30. Zack walked to work and home. Walt took him to school.

Wednesday, July 22, 1987 ZACK got his license back today

Cloudy. It cleared off about noon. Sun came out, quite warm, nothing uncomfortable. Carmen and Dennis over today, they picked vegetables. Zack got license back so he can drive after having it cut off for a couple days. I didn’t do much today. Billie picked some greens. Bill hauled some dirt for the well weird Zack’s truck. Programs back to normal today from the Contra Hearings.

Thursday, July 23, 1987 HOT

This is been a quite hot day. I went up to camp with Betty, Carmen, Brogan, Kim, Milan, Betty and dogs. It was very nice up there, they enjoyed it very much. Jeff up to Dorothea’s and got his antique car and took it home. He bought lobsters. They had a good feed. Helen Fleck, Maxine Staley and granddaughter and Betty called in evening.
