The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 19 - 21, 1987

Partly cloudy. As it has been all this week. I did a wash, made a lemon meringue pie. Bill to town. Watched the soaps. Carmen went to Windham this PM. Bill went with her. Milan and Betty to Portland. Milan for his checkup.

 

 

 

Friday, March 20, 1987

 

A fair day. It snowed flurries then it cleared off some and the sun was out a lot. I did my ironing. I washed my windows. I made Kim’s cake. We watched the soaps. Zack called after school. Billie took Milan down to the hospital, he had to be checked on his throat. Then he went down to get him about noon.

 

 



 

 

Saturday, March 21, 1987 KIM CAME

 

A cloudy and rainy day. I got up early so to get my work done before Kim got here. I got the breakfast, done up the work, washed the floors, made a cake. Frosted Kim’s cake. Zack came up he swept Billie’s garage all good and clean. He hauled some bedding over to Carmen. Kim came at about 1:30. She and Betty came up. Kim seemed pleased to be home. I hope she stays where we can see her more often. Carmen came over, she and Brogan about 4 PM. They and Kim were here for supper. Betty and Kim over to Carmen’s. She liked driving Betty’s new car. Betty had company for supper, Randy Harmon, Errol Briggs and a friend of theirs.
