The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Billie and Zack still looking for a truck. Been cleaning some more. Made a soup for supper. Bill fishing, got some trout.

 

 

 

Thursday, April 23, 1987

 

Carmen came, we put up the living room curtains. We did some cupboards and worked in the kitchen. Baby was good today. Bill been fishing. Billie and Zack out looking for a truck.

 

 

 

Friday, April 24, 1987

Carmen came and cleaned the rest of the cupboards. Also she cleaned some cupboards, washed kitchen windows and got most of the kitchen clean. Dorothea and Joy up to Farmington to a play Kathy was in. They enjoyed it very much. Had Bill’s fish for supper. Very good.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 25, 1987

 

A very nice sunny day, on the coolish side. I done some odd and end jobs in the kitchen. Carmen came and Betty was here. They finished the cupboards. Also the furniture. She done at good job on that. She does very wel,l everything she does. It looks so nice. We made plans to go up to New Hampshire Tuesday. Milan and Betty called today. Brought up some pictures she took. Very good.
