The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 10 - 13, 1987

Tuesday, March 10, 1987 a very nice day, hair set

A nice sunny day, on the cool side. I got up, got breakfast, done up my work. Took bath. Betty took me down to get my hair set. She came and got me. Carmen came and did the shopping and cleaning. We had Brogan after she went home to go to work from 2:30 to 5:30 when the babysitter came and got her. She took her home and stayed till Dennis got home. She was a dite fussy, but very cunning. Zack was up for supper. Betty and Walt were away.

Thursday, March 12, 1987 CHRIS, AUNT VI

A nice day. Not too cold. I didn’t do too much. I did a few odd jobs, watched the soaps. Dorothea called this PM before she went home from shopping. She went to the trial (Chris). He was let out of the institution on a strict probation rules. I sure hope he sticks to those rules by all means. We didn’t want to think of him ever going to a place like that again. We felt sorry for Susan too. We hope Chris will be the nice kid he was before he came into these problems. Aunt Vi died tonight. They got word Aunt Vi died tonight.

Friday, March 13, 1987 DENNIS HAS A NEW JOB

Zack and Walt gone to Rhode Island to attend Aunt V’s funeral. Left at about noon. Billie went with Milan to look at law mowers. I made a Jell-O, a corn flake pudding. Watched programs. It is quite mild today. Billie’s foot is getting a lot worse.
