The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice day. No rain. It was sunny most of the day. Then got a dite cloudy in PM but cleared away again. I hope we don’t get any more rain. I did the ironing, made a chocolate bread pudding for supper. A hamburger delicious. Dorothea came in PM and fixed Billie’s papers for him. Also Betty, Carmen and Brogan came. After Carmen left, Brogan got fussy and cried, finally she went to sleep. She was okay when she got up. Betty came and got her. She began to cry after she got down there and didn’t stop. It is so hard for her and everyone else to hear her. She is so home sick for her father and mother. I don’t know what they can do.

Saturday, April 4, 1987 cloudy no rain

Out shopping today, over to Lewiston with Betty Smith, Betty Horton, Carmen and Brogan. I got some things to use when I get to cleaning house. I left some beans baking. Bill and Billie took care of them, they were good. I done up the regular work, the floors etc. We left about 9:30. Brogan was so good all day. Sat up in her carriage and those big beautiful eyes didn’t miss a thing. We had a very good dinner at Bonanzas.
