The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day. I been busy all day. I watched the soaps. Bill and Billie to the doctors. Bill’s throat not too good. Billie’s toe has got to come off. And all day Bill has to go back to Portland to Dr. Winchenbach on October 7. Milan called. Carmen called. Dorothea stopped a little while when she brought Bill home. A nice sunny day. They bought a new faucet for the kitchen sink so we can have the filter put on.

Betty and Walt got there first letter from Cadet Walter A. Horton today. Got a very good letter from Zack today. Explains everything he does, rules and regulations etc. We are very pleased, he is so contented. Hope he will always like it. I’ve been alone most of the day. It was good. Billie was mowing the fields and doing other odd jobs. Bill out most of the day.

Another of those cloudy days. I done regular work. Washed floors, vacuumed, made pies etc. Bill and Betty over to Norway and got a new toilet seat. The plumber came and put it on this afternoon, also the new sink faucet Bill and Dorothea got the other day. We are now ready for the water filter. Linda Field came with her husband. David came and helped Billie with the cow. Beverley Pendexter bought the two heifers. David sold a heifer to him today also.
