The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 1 - 2, 1986 Billie D Wedding, Baby Shower for Carmen

 

Monday, September 1, 1986 BABY SHOWER, Billie and Jane’s wedding today in Fitchburg Massachusetts

 

Another very nice sunny warm day. It was a perfect day to end the summer. This is all over til the next one coming up in about six or seven months. We got up early because Esther was going to Billie and Jane’s wedding. She, Susan and Monica left about 8 AM. I done up the work, washed, made a cake than got ready to go to camp. Twin Oaks. Hortons, Crooks, Thomas, Yates, Willette, Boulter, Smith and Wolffs. Had a nice dinner etc. Dogs had a good time. Tonight at Joy’s a baby shower for Carmen. She, Laurie, Zenya and Natasha had a good get together. Many were there. She got many nice useful gifts. Dennis’s mother and sister was there.

 

 












 

Tuesday, September 2, 1986 SCHOOL BEGAN

 

A quite nice day, on the mixed cloudy sky. Nice, very mild. I washed again. Billie to the Dr., his toe needs attention. Esther away with Dorothea to shop etc. Today school began as SAD 61. Zack went on the bus, had to get some papers. Said goodbye to the teachers and friends. I froze shell beans. Carmen here and cleaned up the house.
