The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

She picked green string beans. We gave Milan, Betty and Carmen some. Also rhubarb. Dorothea and Betty S cleaned and froze the greens. Billie’s foot about the same. Dorothea and David called in evening. Carmen done a good job today. Betty H, Bill and Zack to Lewiston most of the day. Milan and Billie over and got blueberries. Bill to the Dr., he is okay.

Friday, August 8, 1986 A BIRTHDAY CALL FROM KIM IN INDONESIA, 76 YEARS

Well another miserable day, cloudy hot and humid. In PM got showery and earlier about suppertime we got awful thundershowers. Foggy. I been busy today. Billie to Dr. Goldenhar. He said his foot would have to be watched. Right now it is okay. Milan and Betty called and Betty and Walt and Zack. Carmen didn’t work tonight, she was sick all night and today went to the doctor. Tonight Milan and Betty entertained here for a birthday party. I got a lot of nice gifts. Milan, Betty, Zack, Walt and Betty, Dorothea, Dave, Susan and Carmen all called. It was very nice and I appreciate their kindness etc. Today about mid-day Kim called way from Indonesia. It was so good to hear her voice. We’ll see her soon. I got cards, money underclothes, dresses, money and candy.
